We had been hearing about a restaurant in Urb. La Marina that did the most wonderful steaks and did not ask you to take out a mortgage to pay for them. When I hear these types of rumour I think... nah it can't be right, you get what you pay for in this life and cheap steaks aren't worth eating let alone venturing into deepest, darkest La Marina to find them! Well that's exactly what we did on this wet Saturday night in December. Bar Ramon can be found in a Comercial Centre in Urb. La Marina, I say "a" Comercial Center because La Marina has more than one but I for one can't tell you how to reach any of them. To me La Marina might just as well be a maze. For those of you who have a GPS system you can find it at 038' 07.97 N, 000' 40.56 W. It's worth the effort to locate this restaurant. Bar Ramon is run by a Spanish family, it is a very basic restaurant in the typical Spanish style of this area. But on this cold wet December night when we walked through the door it was packed to the ceiling, the only free table was the one we had booked several day earlier. This was especially impressive when the other local restaurants seemed to be struggling to attract any clients. We had been told the steaks were not only extremely good but also quite large (500gm, smaller cuts can be ordered) and so we dispensed with a starter. Although while we waited for our steaks to be cooked we did have some bread and alioli. the menu also offers fish, lamb chops, veal and omelettes, not really a vegetarians first choice. The steaks finally arrived, I looked down on mine with some surprise, I didn't recognise the cut it sat their dominating my plate like an edible version of Ayers Rock. I cut into it... Very tender and cooked just as I'd ordered it medium rare (I'd actually ordered medium on the basis that in Spain medium equals medium rare), The flavour was exceptional it could have been prime Angus superb! The same was experienced by my three fellow diners, we all agreed that the hype about Bar Ramon's steaks was fully justified. The fifth member of our diner party had chosen an omelette and this was also described as yummy, she was only ten years old. The desserts at Bar Ramon are of the prepackaged variety, mainly ice cream based so there was not much to say about them, but frankly after such a main course you don't need a dessert at all. Our large steaks were €12 each, the whole meal including our drinks came to just €80 for five people. Exceptional value! If you are a meat eater and are looking for that supreme steak do try Bar Ramon. The rosettes by the way are awarded for the steak alone. Go to this restaurant? Click here
